Prescription Drug Management – It’s Not Just “Refill Meds”: What the MACs Are Saying They Want in the Documentation

The changes to Medical Decision Making(MDM)  in the past several years included the phrase “prescription drug management”.  This phrase is instrumental in many physician’s documentations in achieving moderate MDM (including perhaps level 4 office visits).  Medicare contractors have finally started to give us information on what they are looking for in the documentation of this game changer in documentation.   Most physicians fall short of this standard.  Other payers are starting to follow suit in defining what is needed in a provider’s documentation to meet their requirement for “prescription drug management”.
